A Thrilling Middle Grade Adventure - The Scariest. Book. Ever Review Rating: 4/5 Stars

The. Scariest. Book.Ever book cover with purple and red creepy background and a bat with the face of a person flying towards the camera.

While this book didn't fully captivate me as I had hoped, it is certainly a must-read for any middle grade reader seeking a fast-paced, scary adventure. The story revolves around the B&B twins, Billy and Betty, who embark on an unforgettable journey.

Betty, the elder twin by a mere ten minutes, exudes confidence and independence, embodying all the qualities of a natural leader. On the other hand, Billy struggles to find his place alongside his sister, constantly overshadowed by her self-assured nature. However, all that changes when their Uncle Wendell takes them on a daring trip through the Wayward Forest to pursue a notorious book thief.

Lost in the midst of a forest teeming with terrifying creatures, Billy and Betty find themselves engaged in an unexpected competition. Although it may seem ill-timed to compete in such a perilous environment, Billy sees it as an opportunity to prove himself. Little do they know, a twist awaits them! Could it be a case of mistaken identity? Is Uncle Wendell truly their loving uncle, or is he the cunning book thief who led them into the forest? The stakes suddenly soar, and the mystery deepens!

However, from this point on, the story takes a peculiar turn. Multiple plot twists emerge, but instead of piquing my curiosity, they slightly confused me. The question of whether "The Scariest Book Ever" truly exists becomes a recurring theme, intertwined with the revelation of two fake Uncle Wendells. While these twists might be entertaining for some readers, they didn't resonate with me as much. I had hoped that Billy would discover his own sense of autonomy and identity, but unfortunately, the story concludes with a cliffhanger, leaving room for another adventure.

Despite its drawbacks, this book is perfect for those who enjoy an action-packed middle grade thrill. Once you start reading, you'll be hooked till the very end, devouring it in a single sitting. So, embrace the pace and get ready for an exhilarating and creepy journey with Billy and Betty in the Wayward Forest. Enjoy!
